I have brought this up not because of people saying we should but, i was told by the founders of the hosting conpany that once a map gets bigger then 300 mb it will lag no matter what, our map is 600 mb. For the people who have seen the lag this is why.

Pros

New places to explore
Fresh Start
LESS LAG
Select

Cons
We lose all itmes and builds
We will lose some members( unless everyone is friendly to everyone)
limit on the area to build 5000 blocks from x=0 y=0

PLEASE POST YOUR THOUGHTS
This is also only if removing mcmmo does not stop lag

i say restart asap if its only gonna get worse. ya losing the builds will suck but the fun of minecraft is  building stuff. sure it will be smaller but on terms of scale thats still alot of room to play on and its not like theirs 400 people on the server :P. git r done so we can have an easier time without the lag thats all im sayin mind you everyone should have a say in it so don't just listen to me think about the pros and cons and figure out for yourselves what we should do. your all part of the server which means your part of the solution

I say that we should restart.  Sure we'll lose are our builds but we can trash the mess and get a new start.  It's been getting a little messy recently especially with all the abandoned projects.  Final, Demon, and I have been getting a new start but it's not like we're doing a huge project or something.  So my vote is... "Yes".

P.S.

Don't forget to vote on the poll Chuck :P

yea id like a restart. Since the server got updated, i think the map should reset.  a new start is fun and hopefully it will take away all lag.

I say restart.  I may be just finishing my new castle...and I will lose all that work, but the lag ther I'm getting now is being a pain and if the restart will fix that, then by all means.  Also, as previously mentioned, there seems to be a lot of unfinished projects and abandoned property, along with a ton of useless warps.  In my opinion, if you are going to build big projects, then keep them in the same area instead of all around the world.  The only reason the 7 Wonders of the world in RL are all over is because the builders didn't have to worry about the RL World lagging because of it.

Ok, there's the reset, and the lags no different.

If the host is messing up now, it was before the map reset too..

Reset only cause some ragequits(was kinda funny) and people mad at eachother.

there was lag before we restarted the map because of the size of the map, the map we had before was over 600mb, we are lagging now because of the data center problem

I'm replying because I heard a rumor that a map reset may be back on the table for 1.9.

I think a clear map would be good, except for all of the hours of work that we would all lose. It would be nice, even if we didn't have access to using the map, to know that it has been archived somewhere. It would also be nice to get a fresh start so that we could build a more organized world. i.e. major cities connected by different types of railways or roads with unique and large scale characteristics.

In order to keep people from leaving:

FOR MEMBERS
We could give all members who have been with the server for more than x months temporary VIP so that all of the hours of work they've put into the server in the past don't seem completely wasted and ALSO so that the new server can get a really strong start. If most of our members have VIP for say a month or so we could make some truly epic landmarks in a relatively short amount of time as well as connecting roads and railways. We could craft some things that clearly reflect the collective creativity of our existing membership.

I know it may seem silly to give VIP for free even temporarily when it is normally paid for. However, I suspect that if many members have tasted the freedom that comes with VIP, once those abilities are taken away they will be far more inclined to pay in order to regain them (because they will know quite painfully what it is they are missing out on).

FOR VIP
Existing VIP could be given vast regions of the new map by default in order to give different parts of the new world unique character and leadership. And I'm not sure exactly what they are, but I'm sure there are some abilities that VIP would love to have access to for a time that they currently do not.

Conclusion:
I think that it would be in everyone's long term interest to get a fresh start, but we can't simply delete everyone's work. If we want to make a new world let's find a way to start strong and make the best new world that we can. Boosting everyone's membership lvl temporarily is the best way I can think of to show everyone that the server appreciates the contribution that they make to the server's community and that the time they put into the old map has not been wasted. It gives us a great opportunity to start off this new world with a few really detailed civilizations that are connected by some of the most elaborate and far reaching roads, subways, skyrails, tunnels, bridges, portals, and canals that the minecraft world has ever seen.

Let's switch to 1.9 in a big way,

I'm all for it. It's going to suck having to get all the items back, but my OCD won't let me like the fact we have map chunks from 1.6 or something :\
